AFTER LIFE
My project is about death, but also about life. It is about death reflected in life and how we deal with it. Death started to be part of my life from an early age, when at the age of nine, I lost my paternal grandfather. A few years later, his wife, my grandmother. A decade later, the paternal grandparents were gone; and in 2006, my father. In this way, death is, for me, a reflection of life, something that is part and that changes the course of our destiny each time. My father's death reflected sudden changes in both my life and my mother's. Sad to say, but it was for the better.
The project entitled "After Life" started in Berlin, Germany, in 2015, while I lived in the city. My walks through the cemeteries aroused a desire to honour the lives of those people. The possibility of exploring a double analogical photographic exposure resulted in almost surreal images, where I believe I managed to promote the encounter between nature and human life - the one after life.
My intention was to lead the viewer to a dimension of reflection on life and death. While nature represents life, statues and monuments represent death. The composition of two images on top of each other creates a mysterious atmosphere of sad and melancholy poetic dreams. Photographing in cemeteries allowed me to get in touch with memories of the past.
The cemeteries of Reykjavik (Iceland), Lausanne (Switzerland), Milan (Italy) and, finally, the cemetery of San Francisco Xavier, Cajú, are also part of the project that ended this year, more precisely in the month of February when I, for the first time, I went to visit my father's grave. It was with great emotion that I photographed his grave, where he resides with his parents.

DEPOIS DA VIDA
O meu projeto é sobre a morte, mas também sobre a vida. É sobre a morte refletida na vida e sobre como nós lidamos com ela. A morte começou a fazer parte da minha vida desde cedo, quando aos nove anos, eu perdi o meu avô paterno. Alguns anos depois, sua mulher, minha avó. Uma década depois os avós paternos se foram; e em 2006, o meu pai.
Dessa forma, a morte é, para mim, um reflexo da vida, algo que faz parte e que, muda o curso do nosso destino a cada vez. A morte do meu pai refletiu em mudanças bruscas tanto na minha vida quanto na da minha mãe. É triste dizer, mas foi para melhor.
O projeto entitulado "Depois da Vida" (AfterLife em inglês) começou em Berlim, Alemanha, em 2015, enquanto eu morava na cidade. Minhas caminhadas pelos cemitérios despertaram um desejo de honrar a vida daquelas pessoas. A possibilidade de explorar uma dupla exposição fotográfica analógica resultou em imagens quase surreais, onde eu acredito ter conseguido promover o encontro entre a natureza e a vida humana- aquela depois da vida.
A minha intenção era conduzir o espectador a uma dimensão de reflexão sobre a vida e a morte. Enquanto a natureza representa a vida, as estátuas e monumentos representam a morte. A composição de duas imagens uma sobre a outra cria uma atmosfera misteriosa de sonhos poéticos tristes e melancólicos. Fotografar em cemitérios me permitiu entrar em contato com memórias do passado.
Os cemitérios de Reykjavik (Islândia), Lausanne (Suíça), Milão (Itália) e, por fim, o cemitério do São Francisco Xavier, Caju, também fazem parte do projeto que terminou esse ano, mais precisamente no mês de fevereiro quando eu, pela primeira vez, fui visitar o túmulo de meu pai. Foi com grande emoção que fotografei seu túmulo, onde ele reside com seus pais.
